Fly Fishing Tips

After 40 years of fly fishing, guiding, and instructing, Patrick Weaver shares tips on becoming a better angler for trout. The Tips page has articles that address techniques and tactics for fly fishing.

Custom Flies

After wandering rivers in Pisgah Forest for 25 years, I have developed patterns to imitate insects found in the local mountain streams. I have combined my science background, fly tying skills and love for fly fishing to create patterns that work in our waters.

Guiding

Patrick guides for Headwaters Outfitter guiding fly fishing trips in local waters. He began his guiding after moving to Pisgah 25 years ago. For more information contact Headwaters Outfitters or Patrick via email.

Trout Flies

I tie trout flies based on insect hatches for the local waters. My patterns are a combination of observations and experience over the last 40 years of fly fishing. I tie nymphs and wet flies but I am particularly detailed with my dry flies.

Instruction

I combine my experience as a high school science teacher, fly fishing instructor for the NC Wildlife Resource Commission and experience fly fishing to create classes at Headwaters Outfitters so others can learn and develop their fly fishing skills.

Presentations

My science and fly fishing background has given me the experience and knowledge to make presentations for organizations and fly fishing clubs. I have made presentations on angler entomology, fly tying, river ecology, and fly fishing techniques. If your organization would be interested in a guest speaker please contact me.
