Float Trips for Trout or Bass
Guided Float Trips with Patrick Weaver
It is hard to beat the relaxing yet thrilling experience of float fishing for trout or bass. North Carolina is best known for wading for trout, yet it has some fantastic larger rivers that boast large populations of trout and bass. Floating is a great way to cover more river miles and give you more chances to catch fish. Also, floating is a great for people with mobility issues or who just want to have a relaxing fishing experience.
I use a comfortable NSR 13’9” fishing raft. Plenty of room for two anglers, gear, and a cooler. Anglers will be provided rods, tackle, and plenty of fun for the day.
Trout Floats
Trout float trips are best from fall through spring. Winter can be a good time to float for large trout. Large trout will be chasing streamers or hitting big nymphs. Spring and fall is a great time to float for trout. The weather is warmer, trout are on the feed, and the water is at a good level. Float trips for trout will be on the Tuckasegee or French Broad River and give the angler 4 to 6 miles of river to fish. The Tuck is the most heavily stocked river in WNC for trout, lending abundant opportunities to catch trout.
Bass Float Trips
Summertime is smallmouth bass season. Warmer water gets them moving aggressively. Bass will aggressively hit streamers below the surface but low water and summer hatches can lead to some great top water action. Anglers can use fly tackle or light spin tackle on smallmouth. For anglers new to fly fishing for bass, I provide 7wt rods and tackle, or for experienced anglers, you can use your own rods.
