Guided Fly Fishing Wade trips are a great way to experience NC trout fishing

  • Small Stream Fly Fishing

Small streams have plenty of action and it is a good option come late May and into the summer.   Trout here are smaller but with a lightweight 2 or 3 weight rod, trout feel plenty challenging.  Small streams are abundant with all trout species but are the only place to find the Southern Appalachian Brook Trout.  It is also a great option to practice dry fly fishing since the shallow waters keep the fish looking up for food.

  • Larger Streams

Streams around Rosman and Brevard are home to larger flows and bigger trout.  There is a mix of wild and delayed harvest or hatchery supported rivers.  These are great options that are typically close to the road for individuals wanting easy access to the water.  The easy access means more pressure and a guided trip will help you be more successful.  I tie and select flies that work under pressure and will teach you how to be more successful.

  • Back Country Angling

There are several back country stream trips for the adventurous.  Here the fishing is accentuated by the beauty of the the remote wilderness of North Carolina.  These trips are typically an all-day adventure.  Catching wild trout, seeing bald eagles, and enjoying solitude are all possible on a back country stream.  You'll enjoy your lunch riverside, taking it all in.

Patrick Weaver is a guide for Headwaters Outfitters and has been guiding and fishing these streams for over 20 years. His wealth of experience ensures that he can tailor the trip to fit your skill level, providing an educational and fun time to beginners just learning, experts wanting to expand their angling, and anyone in-between.  Not only will you learn what to do to catch trout but also why it works.  He can guide trips in a variety of environments, from small brook streams in the high country to roadside delay harvest streams. All trips are run through Headwaters Outfitters.
